Bein haMitzar… War Update. Day. 513. 2 March, 2025

Bein haMitzar in Hebrew roughly translates to between the narrow places. Between a rock and a hard place. The straits are narrow and the sides are tall. So what do we do? Take it day by day, pray and push through. That seems to be the Israeli way.

At present we are in a period of relative (relative!) calm. The Houthis are inactive. Hizbulla has been mostly dismantled on the Lebanese border. They have violated their end of the ceasefire on numerous occasions, and the IDF is staying put in 5 strategic places to ensure that they cannot invade Israel Hamas-style as was their original intent in July/August.

The Syrian rebels, although a threat, are fairly well contained in Syria. Israel has the entire Mt. Hermon area, the highest peak and most strategic outlook in the area, with views deep inside both Syria and Lebanon. The Druze and Christian communities, on what was Syrian territory before they abandoned it, are literally begging to be annexed into Israel. They form a protective edge on the Israeli border with Syria. Personally, I say ‘go for it.’ Annex them. They will fight to defend Israel, and if caught by the Rebels, they would face (the peaceful Christians) extreme persecution, even death. Israel is still carrying out precision air strikes to take out lead Hizbulla operatives in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. They are also targeting weapons transfers and weapons storage facilities.

In Lebanon, the new president, Joseph Aoun, has kicked Iranian diplomats out, refusing to let them attend the funeral of Nazralla last week. The new Suni Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said in his speech to Parliament, “ We want a country that will have the decision on war and peace in its own hands. A country that is not run with an aggressive mentality but with a defensive mentality, one that will protect its people, and if it has to go to war, it will be done according to the constitution.” With that, they are trying to oust the country of Iranian influence as well as its proxy in terror, Hizbulla. It is asserting its own independence, finally. The country and people have been impoverished and ravaged by endless wars for decades and it seems that they want an end to all this.

Judaea and Samaria remain a huge problem. Over a thousand convicted felons…murderers and those who have planned suicide attacks on Israelis, have been let out of prison into Judaea in Samaria. It is a hotly contested land with both Jewish cities, towns and farms and Arab cities, towns and farms. In Samaria, Jenin, which has always been a hotbed for terrorists, weapons smuggling, drug running and general violence is now being cleaned out by the IDF. They are actively seeking weapons caches and terrorists. Also, Tulkarem is a nest of nefarious activity and is being closely monitored. Several car rammings nd stabbings have been reported in Samaria. Just Friday, 12 people were injured, 2 critically, in a car ramming attack.

In Gaza, phase 1 of the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel has ended. The agreement, led by US envoy Witkoff, Qatar and Egypt require Israel to pull out of the Philadelphi Corridor. This is the narrow border between Egypt and Gaza. Israel refuses as they need to be able to prevent terrorists from freely crossing the border with weapons. They cannot be allowed to rearm and regroup. We have seen the myriad troops in their uniforms and carrying weapons at the captive release ceremonies. Hamas considers Israel’s non withdrawal policy a breach of the agreement, which they have completely violated on all accounts.

Negotiations are still ongoing, although intelligence reported that Hamas had relocated operatives from southern Gaza back to the North. They still have tunnels ands hidden weapons stockpiles as well as suicide drones laden with explosives, so they still pose a very viable threat to the citizens of Israel. Defense Minister Yisrael Katz staged, “the cease fire was not due to troop exhaustion or lack of munitions, but solely to facilitate the return of the hostages.” Israel has agreed to extend the ceasefire through Ramadan, which is happening now. They will pause in any hostilities for 42 days in exchange for the release of all the non-soldiers male hostages and all in desperate need of medical attention (Alon Ohel) still being held. This would eventually lead to a permanent ceasefire. Hamas has absolutely negated that deal. They have flatly refused. Israel has said that there will be no truce without the release of ALL the hostages. The hostages are their one bargaining chip…

    Israel now has three options:

    • Return to fighting an all-out, no-holds-barred with Hamas in Gaza
    • Extend ,Phase l and continuing the release of the captives, completely nixed by Hamas last night. Whether this option remains viable, who knows, as Hamas always negates an agreement, then backs down at the last minute and acquiesces.
    • Push forward to Phase ll of the proposed agreement. Israel will continue to release more prisoners in exchange for captives. Hamas demands the release of 150 convicted prisoners in exchange for each body/hostage released. Israel will completely pull out of Gaza.

The Trump administration is fully backing Israel in its decision. Trump has already demanded a release of those being held or there will be “hell to pay.” It seems Hamas is being backed up against a wall with only two possible options – complete surrender or resume fighting until the end. We are waiting to see what will happen next. Our troops are ready whatever the outcome.

Tuesday, the seven leaders of the Arab League will begin their summit in Cairo to discuss the proposals made by Trump and the question of what will be in the Gaza Strip. Who will live there? Who will govern? Who will rebuild? What will be rebuilt? Also being discussed are relocation possibilities and regional security issues. Most of the plan has already been hashed out by Egypt.

Through this entire war, hostage release debacle, and all the internal affairs of the nation of Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu has been testifying in court. He has been made to stand on trial in the middle of the most insane war. The fact that he has been held in a room, having to testify for hours and hours instead of dealing with the war, shows a little of Israel’s deep state issue. Elon Musk last week called out those people who are actually unelected officials running the bureaucracy of the country. The deep state here is much more impactful than people realize. The vast majority of Israel are against this.

Intelligence has come out about the events surrounding 7 October. As it turns out, a young girl (soldier in intelligence) wrote a full report about the intended plans of Hamas to invade on a holiday Shabbat and do as much damage as possible, massacring, bombing, kidnapping hostages, and using massive continual rocket barrages as a distraction. She gave the written report to her immediate supervisor, who completely dismissed the entire write-up as complete fantasy. He tried to rationalize that there was absolutely no way this could happen, that Israel’s defense was strong. The girl was told to stand down, and the report never reached the higher ups. That’s ego. The commander has been fired. I hope he will be held partially responsible.

Further details are coming forth from the released hostages as to their treatment while in Gaza. It is horrific, for the most part. Here is the testimony of Eli Sharabi, whose wife and two daughters were killed that day, unbeknownst to him. Just so you know can see, this is a photo of him before he was kidnapped:

I pray that all the hostages will be liberated miraculously, through negotiations or daring rescue operations.

I will be leaving for a month in California. My daughter is due with baby #2 at any moment. Hopefully, my husband and I can be of some help. We also have another daughter and her family in the area. And our youngest daughter in Seattle will also try to join us with her family for a long weekend.

In the meantime, I have several “feature articles” which I hope to release in the coming days. I have already done the interviews. We will be watching the news very closely and if anything happens, or if war breaks out, I will try to cover it as much as I can find out. In the meantime, we remain in the narrow straits, a time of quiet for now-

    War Stories. Day 510. 27 February, 2025

    Color Me Orange

For one day, it seems, the world took notice. What did it take? The bodies of a beautiful young mom and her two orange haired babies.

Yesterday, all of Israel mourned together. It seemed the entire nation stood still. The funeral procession made its way from Rishon l’Tsiyon to the cemetery at Nir Oz carrying the bodies of the Bibas family. The streets were clogged the entire way with people waving Israeli flags and orange flags, banners and orange balloons. As the hearse passed, the crowd would release their balloons, sending them floating overhead in a never ending sea of orange. It was one of the largest funerals in Israel, equal to that of the great rabbis.

Shiri and her husband, Yarden, were awakened early morning of 7 October, 2023, as civilian terrorists from Gaza were breaking into their house. They debated whether to surrender of fight. At Shiri’s insistence, Yarden went into the living room to fight them off, but he was greatly outnumbered and out armed. They took the family, Shiri, Ariel, who had just turned 4, and baby Kfir, only 9 months. I watched that day, as the Gazans had uploaded all the footage in real time and it was playing out on the Arabic news stations. Everyone who remembers ears the video clip, knows the look of abject fear in Shiri’s eyes as she clutches her precious children and were led away. Their dog, Tonto, was taken as well, and the next day was shot, also on video.

We found out this week that Shiri and the children had been murdered early on, while Yarden spent 503 days in captivity. His survival was partially attributed to the fact that he would be reunited with his family. He was holding on to the thread they would be alive, despite having watched Hamas propaganda videos declaring them dead by Israeli fire. Unfortunately the grand reunification was not to be and their coffins were returned two weeks later.

The funeral was absolutely heartbreaking, as one would expect. Yarden started out with words he had learned in Spanish, because Shiri’s family (both her parents were also murdered on the kibbutz that day) were from Argentina…

“Mi Amor. I remember the first time I said ‘mi amor’ to you. It was at the very beginning of our relationship. You told me only to call you that if I was certain “I loved you.” Shiri, I’ll confess to you now that I already loved you back when I said ‘mi amor.’

Shiri, I love you and will always love you! Shiri you are everything to me! You are the best wife and mother there could be. Shiri, you are my best friend. Mishmish (apricot), who will help me make decisions now? How am I supposed to make decisions without you? Do you remember our last decision together? In the safe room, I asked you if we should fight or surrender. You said fight so I fought. Shiri, I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you all.

I think about everything we went through together – there are so many beautiful memories. I remember Ariel and Kfir’s births. I remember the days we would sit at home or in a café, just the two of us, talking for hours about everything under the sun. It was wonderful. I miss those times deeply. Your presence is profoundly missed.

I want to tell you everything that is happening in the world and here in Israel. Shiri, everyone knows and loves us – you can’t imagine how surreal all this madness is. Shiri, people tell me they’ll always be by my side, but they’re not you. So please stay close to me and don’t go far! Shiri, this is the closest I’ve been to you since October 7th, and I can’t kiss or hug you, and it’s breaking me!

Shiri, please watch one me. Protect me from bad decisions. Shields me from harmful things and protect me from myself. Guard me so I don’t sink into darkness. Mishmish, I love you!

Chooki, Ariel. You made me a father. You transformed us into a family. You taught me what truly matters in life and about responsibility. The day you were born I matured instantly because of you. You taught me so much about myself, and I want to thank you. So thank you, my beloved.

Ariel, I hope you’re not angry with me for failing to protect you properly and for not being there for you. I hope you know I thought about you every day, every minute. I hope you’re enjoying Paradise. I’m sure you’re making all the angels laugh with your silly jokes and impressions. I hope there are plenty of butterflies for you to watch, just like you did during our picnics.

Chooki, be careful when you climb down from your cloud not to step on Toni (Yarden’s brother, who was also massacred). Teach Kfir all your impressions and make everyone laugh up there. Ariel, I love you ‘the most in the world, always in the world,’ just as you used to tell us.

Poopik, Kfir, I didn’t think our family could be more perfect, and then you came along and made it even more perfect. I remember your birth. I remember during the delivery when the midwife suddenly stopped everything – we were frightened and thought something was wrong – but it was just to tell us we had another redhead. Mom and I laughed and rejoiced. You brought more light and happiness to our little home. You came with your sweet, captivating laugh and smile, and I was instantly hooked. It was impossible not to nibble on you all the time.

Kfir, I’m sorry I didn’t protect you better, but I need you to know that I love you deeply and miss you terribly! I miss nibbling on you and hearing your peals of laughter. I miss our morning games when mom would ask me to watch you before I went to work. I cherished those little moments so much and I miss them now more than ever! Kfir, I love you the most in the world, always in the world!I

Ave so many more things to tell you, but I’ll save them for when we’re alone…

In the middle of the night last night, without ceremony or fanfare, Hamas handed over the bodies of four more hostages who had been murdered in captivity. This concludes Phase 1 of the 3 phase agreement. Even at 2 am, Israelis came out en masse with flags to form a sort of honor guard. Final forensic examination proved that the bodies were those of Ohad Yahalomi, Shlomo Manzur, Tsachi Idan and Yitzhak Elgarat, may their memories be a blessing.

Ohad Yahalomi, 49, was kidnapped from Kinbutz Nir Oz as he attempted to protect his family. He engaged in a gun battle with the terrorists and was shot in the leg. Despite his injury, Ohad urged his wife, Batsheva, and their three children to escape while he stayed behind. While most of his family managed to get away after a harrowing ordeal, he was taken captive into Gaza. He left behind his wife and three children, one of whom, Eitan, was also kidnapped into Gaza. Eitan was released in November, 2023.

Shlomo Manzur, 85, was born in Baghdad, Iraq. He survived the Farhud (MidEast Holocaust in the late 1940s) and emigrated to Israel as a child. Shlomo was a kind and generous man, one of the founders of Kibbutz Kissufim., a peaceful agricultural kibbutz in the Gaza border. He left behind his wife, Mazal, who managed to escape, and 12 grandchildren. His life began and ended in terror against the Jewish people.

Yitzhak Elgarat, 68, was a dual Danish-Israeli national, who lived with his family on Kibbutz Nir Oz. He was the kibbutz gardener and handyman. ‘Itzik’ was loved by everyone at the kibbutz as he had a way of bringing people of all ages together and creating social and community events. He was shot in the hand by terrorists while in the safe room of his house. In a final call to us brother, he said, “Danny. This is the end.” They dragged him away where his phone was later traced to Gaza. He was killed by Hamas. He has a brother in Israel and two children living in Denmark.

Tsachi Idan. Oh Tsachi!! My poor, dear Tsachi! What can I say? I watched horrorstruck that fateful morning. Your family was one of the first live feeds I saw. The terrorists had GoPros on their headbands and filmed everything in real time as they broke into the house.

    https://youtu.be/Taab_3a3124?si=eCMMPIDVJoAn7LUk

In January, 2024, a video showed him alive but in poor health. Tsachi, now you’ve returned to your broken family. It’s all so beyond words-

On the positive note, I just had another uplifting Israeli experience just a few minutes ago. Across the street from us is a little brick path that leads tot eh neighborhood gan, the kindergarten. Parents park on the street next to our house when they are dropping and picking up their little kids. I had to give something to our neighbor, and walking back home, there was a car with an open door. Outside the car, with the door open stood four absolutely adorable little four year old girls, their hair in buns and pony tails, cute sweatshirts and backpacks. They were just ssoooo cute! I commented to the father how cute they all were milling about and he said. “Children. They are our life and our future. Our gold. We love them.” Just how refreshing is that? Not a hint of anything untoward. Just pure love. I’ve never experienced this anywhere else-

Courage, Strength and Resilience. War Stories. Day 508. 25 February, 2025

Today, I’d like to start off by apologizing to anyone who I have made to feel uncomfortable or upset. I am not setting out to do that, and I have spared many gory stories and photographs for that reason. I do try my best to sift through all the news from Israel, find only the factual that I can verify, and report what I see and what the people are experiencing and feeling. I really do try to be as unbiased as possible, and have shied away from topics I know might be offensive to some of my readers (although one day I might have to take those ‘projects’ on).

As for my own standing with the L-rd. I know we all will be standing in front of Him in judgement one day. I try to keep myself in right standing with Him and with those in my personal life. I am answerable to them, and try to live my life accordingly. And I do try my best to forgive those who have wronged me personally. That said, there is true good in this world -which I will write about in this article – and true EVIL. When I see evil and untruth, it is upon me to call it out and stand against it. We are called to fight against evil, in our own lives and in the world, to the utmost of our abilities. We are to spread goodness and light and help one another, but we cannot allow evil and untruth to go uncovered or unanswered. There is mercy, there is judgement; we do our part and leave the rest up to G-d.

That said, today’s post will focus on the resiliency of the Israeli people as a whole. Why do they seem so strong? What keeps them going? How can so many seem so resilient…as in the ability to rebound after disaster? Not all can. There have been several suicides after the 7 October…people with survivor’s guilt after the NOVA music festival; those who have seen too much to process; and those whose loved ones have been murdered or directly affected. But they are the minority. Most have taken the proverbial bull by the horns and are doing great things, being a source of strength and inspiration for the rest of us.

Despite the tragedy and the horror, stories of the released hostages are coming out from the families. Some have gone on to give interviews or make public appearances. Several weeks ago five female IDF soldiers were among those released from Hamas captivity. They were the observation soldiers, who, at an army base adjacent to the border, did surveillance on the computer monitors of the border fence and beyond. They all spent 15 months living in captivity, sometimes together, sometimes alone. They were hidden away in hospitals, in underground tunnels, at some points in the homes of ‘innocent civilians.’ Sometimes they were held together or saw each other during a transfer of location. Other times, they were alone.

Agam Berger, now age 20, from an observant Jewish family, was held for months with a Gazan civilian family who did not let her shower; who denied her food, yet had her cook for them (she was watched by the children and not allowed to eat any of the family food she was ordered to prepare); who kept her chained. Yet she informed her captors that she would never light a fire to cook on the Sabbath. She would keep the Jewish dietary laws of Kashrut completely, even if that meant only a pita or spoiling vegetables every two days.

In another civilian’s home where she was kept with Liri Albag and Naama Levy, she told her parents, “Last January the terrorists brought us a Hebrew book they found in the field. They asked me what it was and then just gave it to us. It was a Siddur (prayer book), and we used it daily throughout our captivity. It was G-d’s gift to us.” She went on to say, I do not know why, but somehow they valued me more because I was religious. They said all of Judaism is a lie, and told me I would become Muslim, but they preferred someone who believes in G-d over someone who doesn’t.”

She described feelings of despair and frustration during her prolonged captivity, yet never gave up hope that she would survive her ordeal. Her religious faith provided the strength and stability to keep her going while in Gaza. She found ways to track the passage of time. “We celebrated all of the holidays. Sometimes we had access to radio, and occasionally, we saw things on television that helped us know the date.” She would pray for a sign, and miraculously, she would see on a television ‘9 Av,’ a fasting day. From there I counted the actual days and was able to observe all the fasts – Yom Kippur, Tisha b’Av and the Fast of Esther.

Sometimes she was held with fellow captive, Liri Albag, and the two provided emotional support to each other. At one time, she overheard her captors playing a radio and hearing of the rescue of some of the captives early on. “Hearing people fighting for is on the radio strengthened us,” Agam reported. At a news event, she recently made a request, “…that you each take on one good deed in the name of those remaining. Whether it’s doing good for someone else or praying in their merit. I want all the hostages home soon.” As she was led out of Gaza, she and the other girls resolved to radiate strength and joy for the world to see that despite the terrors, Hamas did not have the victory over them and that the people of Israel remain. They vowed from the onset to keep their G-d given dignity.

Just a week ago, Agam Berger’s little sister drafted into the IDF. It was Agam who proudly pinned her braid to her epaulets at the tekes kumta installation ceremony. All of the released hostage girls who served in the army have requested to return to finish their service.

When Hamas tried to drag Liri Albag, 19, into their underground tunnels, she blatantly refused. She insisted on staying above ground. Somehow she was able to talk the terrorists into stopping to abuse released hostage, Amit Soussana, who described Liri as a “force to be reckoned with. Liri is something special. She has an incredible strength, radiating an ability not to be broken. She gave me courage.” At one time, while being held in a UN sponsored hospital, Liri saw on a television report that people all over the world were fighting to bring the hostages home and the knowledge that they were not forgotten provided her with the strength she needed to survive her ordeal. Upon her release, while in the helicopter that would bring her h9e, Liri gave the heart sign with her hands to show her love and appreciation for the people of Israel.

“Abba, there are 2 million terrorists there, make no mistake. I saw with children ages 6 and 4, who were spitting on me and cursing the Jews.” She has partially described to her parents “ experiencing insane things that are hard to tell everything about.” Those are reticent to speak out loud too much, because they fear for the lives of the hostages still being held in captivity. “Entire families are under Hamas. I realized I was staying with a family. I started to ask myself ‘why am I in a family home? Why are there children here? Then I learned it was to teach them to mistreat me.” At one time, close to her release, she was forced to do a propaganda video.

As for others: Kobi Levi, every day wore the tefillin, the boxes containing passages from the Torah/Deuteronomy 6) strapped on their arm and forehead during prayer, that were worn by the kidnapped Eli Sharabi in his merit. Sharabi’s sister had put out a Facebook post soon after his abduction. “She innocently asked who would be willing to take on the responsibility of wearing his tefillin very day. I saw the post, and immediately without thinking twice, I reached out.” Every day when he prayed, he would ask G-d for a release of the hostages, and prayed for Eli Sharabi in particular.

Kobi has yet to meet the one he prayed for for almost a year and a half, but wrote a letter that has been delivered to Eli. “ … you’ve returned home half a person, just as your family described…you’ve been through so much, losing your wife and daughters, May their memories be a blessing, and your brother who was killed I captivity, May his memory be a blessing. Yet you survived this entire period, and I’m sure that thanks to all the people who love you, you’ll slowly return to yourself. Without knowing you, you’ve entered deep into my heart, and I’m sure we’ll meet. I love you dear Eli. Better days will come, I’m sure.” The tefillin and prayer shawl have been returned to their owner.

Meet Shachar and Boris. Before their deployment into Gaza to fight Hamas, they made a vow to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro together.

Indomitable spirit of Boris & Shachar: They Made It!!

Then came the unthinkable. Shachar was critically injured by an RPG that exploded beside him. Then, just a few days apart, Boris was critically wounded in a terror tunnel that was booby trapped with explosives. It took the lives of four of his unit members. Most people would have given up…but not these two. After months of rehabilitation, including Boris’ prosthetic leg, two weeks ago they proudly stood at the mountain’s peak in the snow. Carrying a banner bearing the faces of the four soldiers who never made it home.

“We wanted to show everyone struggling physically or mentally to believe in themselves. Get up. Leave your home. See what you are capable of,” stated Shachar. Even with broken bodies they climbed – for themselves. For their brothers-in-arms. For the unbreakable Israeli spirit.

British-Israeli hostage, Emily Damari, now 28, was held captive by Hamas at UN facilities for much of her 15 months. She was denied visits from the Red Cross, despite her medical condition and underwent surgery without anesthesia, painkillers or antibiotics for gunshot wounds to her legs and hand. She was given an out of date bottle of iodine to put on her wounds by a UN doctor at Shifa medical center. When she heard of her release, Emily offered Hamas to stay in captivity so an older man, American-Israeli, Keith Siegel, could be released in her stead. Her request was denied, but a week later, Siegel was also freed.

In a photo that has since gone viral, Emily is seen upon and shortly after her release, waving her bandaged hand emblemizing her courage and resilience. It is now an Israeli icon, emoji and meme: it is a symbol of defiance against the true oppressors. Religious have adopted it as the priestly benediction “May G-d bless you and keep you.”

Ohr Aharoni, Israeli designer and wife of a reservist, is offering necklaces with the Emily’s hand image. It can be found on her Jewselry.com. Site or from Etsy. All her proceeds go to help the wives of reservists or families whose husbands/fathers have fallen or been gravely injured in combat. She is another example of the amazing Israeli spirit.

In addition, this morning, former hostage, Emily Damari, received a heartwarming gift. After learning that Emily was in need of a car to resume her normal life, in an amazingly generous anonymous donor in America bought her the car of her dreams. Rabbi Shai Graucher presented her with a new BMW on the donor’s behalf. May she continue to heal and to rebuild her life.

Faith, spirituality, determination to survive and thrive are just some of the factors that motivate Israelis to push forward. Support from friends and family also helps. But the Jewish people have been fighting off those enemies who wish to see them annihilated for millennia now. They are familiar with the trope. And they know how the story always ends: the Jewish people are preserved, victorious; their enemies are vanquished; a great feast is created. As the saying goes. “They lost. We’re still alive. Let’s celebrate.” There is also the command to be the Light to the world. I believe Israel, although badly shaken, will continue to shine. As former hostage Mia Shemm put it, “We will dance again.”

עם ישראל חי! 🇮🇱 💪🏼 The people of Israel live

Rainbows Amid the Storms War Stories. Day 506. 23 February, 2025

Rainbow spotted over Mediterranean/Tel Aviv, Thursday morning

Amid all the horrors and atrocities we’ve read about or seen in this world over the past week, there shines the miraculous. Sometimes in the middle of a storm, a rainbow appears. To remind us of the Mercy and Love and Promises of G-d. This week two huge ones shone brightly. Neither were widely noticed nor were they widely publicized.

The first rainbow was a true, visible one. The day of the return of Oded Lifshitz and the Bibas babies in coffins, amidst the gray clouds and raindrops, a rainbow shone. Out over the Mediterranean, off the coast of Gaza and up to Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Netanya. It didn’t last long, but it was there, almost as if it were a sign.

I will now share with you a post on X/Twitter that was written by Hillel Fuld. “Hilz” is a completely reliable witness. I can vouch for him. He is the brother of my friend Ari Fuld (of blessed memory), who was killed in a terror attack right before Yom Kippur a few years back. I will now share with you from the X account of Hillel Fuld:

Since day one, I’ve been telling anyone who will listen that since 10/7, we’ve witnessed so many miracles, it’s hard to count.
Some of these miracles are easy to recognize, like how well the beeper operation went down or how successful we were at intercepting or detonating those hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles fired at us from Iran. Twice.
Other miracles were harder to recognize.
And then we have last night. Last night was a miracle the caliber of the splitting of the sea. I am talking an open miracle that could and should have ended very differently.

Do not ask me my sources and if that means you don’t believe what I’m about to say, so be it. You can keep scrolling. But if you know my work, you know I’m very careful with what I share so if I’m sharing this, trust me, it’s based on a reliable source.

Last night (Thursday), a young lady noticed a suspicious object on a bus in the center of Israel. She reported it to the driver who pulled into a station, got everyone off the bus at which point, the bus blew up and was completely destroyed.
But that wasn’t the end of it. Not even close.
Over the hours that followed, an additional four bombs were found on busses, some of them exploded, others were taken apart before exploding. Some malfunctioned.
According to my source, and this was news to me, a whopping 15 busses were supposed to explode this morning. According to reports, the terrorists set the timer to 9 PM instead of 9AM.
So, is that the worst of it? Not even close.
In addition to the 15 busses, 5 suicide bombers were set to detonate bombs on the light rail at the same time, all in the center of Israel (Tel Aviv area).
So, is that the worst? Nope. That’s the good part.
Where did this attack originate? Gaza? Nope. It was Judaea and Samaria. In other words, these terrorists came from within Israel.
And here’s the kicker, and again, I am not telling you where I heard this, all of the above was intended to be nothing more than the distraction, much like the incoming rockets on 10/7. Just a distraction for the real invasion.
My source says that as those busses and terrorists blew up, massive security and emergency forces were supposed to rush to the scene at which point, there would be a massive breach of the security fence and many terrorists from Judaea and Samaria would invade Israel and carry out another 10/7 2.0. Only this time it wouldn’t be from Gaza so it would be an invasion into basically every major city in Israel.
For the third time, this is not information that is publicly available. I can’t share a link and I won’t share a source. Believe me or don’t. Up to you.

It is worth pointing out that for decades, we did not have any bus explosions in Israel. We do this deal and release terrorists, some of whom were the architects behind the buys bombings during the intifada, and all of a sudden, we’re back to busses blowing up.
    I can’t imagine anyone believing that that’s a coincidence.
All of this was supposed to go down during rush hours and would have caused hundreds, maybe thousands of Israeli deaths.
Even if the rest isn’t true, multiple busses blowing up like this bus during rush hour? Can’t even imagine.
Yesterday morning was one of the hardest days in Israel’s history. Perhaps the hardest. We all felt hopeless, every last one of us.
When we are in pain, G-d is in pain with us.
I don’t know about you but yesterday morning, as I saw the coffins of the Bibas angels, I looked up to HaShem and asked why. Why would He cause us so much pain or allow Hamas to do this to us?
I told myself that we’ll be okay but wasn’t sure if that was true. Was G-d even watching over us any more? Has He abandoned us? Did He turn His back on us?
Then, as the hostages were being delivered, a beautiful rainbow appeared in the Israeli skies, a sign from the times of Noah, that G-d won’t ever destroy the world or let it be destroyed. A rainbow, according to Jewish scripture, is G-d’s way of telling us, “Don’t worry. I got your back.”
Still though, I was just so sad and so angry.
And then the news started to hit my feeds.
    A bus exploded. No injuries.
Hmmm. “How does that happen?” I asked myself.
Then another bus exploded. No injuries. And a third. No injuries. I already felt G-d’s presence again. And the news kept coming in. More bombs discovered. More Intel. This was supposed to be the biggest attack since 10/7, maybe even bigger.
    Totally thwarted.
By who? The IDF? Nope. Shabak? Nope. Mossad? Nope.
This was a massive attack prevented 100% by G-d Himself. And a very vigilant young lady who noticed the suspicious object.
Whatever Hamas planned or didn’t plan for this morning. I would not be writing these words if the plan had come to fruition. But G-d had other plans and fate all the pain G-d’s chuildren endured yesterday, He felt we needed to be reminded of His presence. He felt we needed to be reminded that He has our back, now and always. He was right. We did need it.
This event might go down in history as one of the biggest miracles the Jewish people experienced since Biblical times.
“There are two ways to live life. One is that nothing is a miracle. The other is that everything is a miracle.”
The beepers? The walkie-talkies? Getting Nasrallah? Haniyeh? Deif? They’ll attribute all of that to Israel’s intelligence.
But this? What happened last night? Israel had nothing to do with it. If you don’t see this event as a miracle, there is only one explanation. You don’t want to see it as a miracle.
Open your eyes. Clean your lenses. HaShem is here with us in our pain and each day that passes, we are one day closer to Him finally revealing Himself to us, explaining why any of this had to happen, and ultimately bringing Moshiach.
For now, I just wanted to recognize HaShem’s greatness and on behalf of the hundreds, maybe thousands of Israelis who should be dead right now, just say thank you.

הודו לה השם כי טוב כי לעולם חסדו
Give thanks to the LORD; for He is good: for His mercy endures forever.
ברוך אתה ה׳ אלוהינו מלך העולם הגומל לחי ים טובות, שגמלני כל טוב.
Blessed are you, O LORD, our G-d, King of the Univese, who rewards good deeds, who rewards me for every good thing.
We say this blessing when we are saved from tragedy. Today the Jewish nation was saved from tragedy.
    Thank you, HaShem.

We Are Not O.K. War Stories. Day 504. 21 February, 2025

We are not O.K. Israel is not O.K. We had steeled our collective ssoouls for yesterday, the hardest day since 7/8 October, when the Hamas terrorists and “innocent civilians” of Gaza broke into Israel raping, murdering, looting, bombing, destroying and kidnapping true innocent civilians. Soldiers, yes. But also men and women. Teenagers. Concert attendees. Thai, Nepalese, Filipino, Eritrean and Indian day-workers. Bedouin Arab Muslims. And children. And little babies. Over 14,000 people were massacred that day. Scores wounded. And over 250 people taken captive into Gaza.

Under the latest ceasefire agreement, several dozen captives are being returned in exchange for thousands of convicted terrorists serving long sentences in Israeli jails. But more on that later- Israel has rejoiced as five beautiful, strong, resilient female IDF soldiers were released. We’ve gasped and we’ve cried to see the brutal treatment of some of the hostages on display with sick psychological torture to the very end. Men and women civilians taken captive – true prisoners – were paraded through hostile radical Islamic crowds, emerging as skeletons – mere shadows of their former selves. We were reminded of the atrocities of the Holocaust and the brutality against Jews throughout the centuries.

Yesterday was the most cruel day of all. It seemed all of the Palestinians were out in the streets. All ages celebrating what they perceive to be their victory in this war. Children carried on the shoulders of their fathers, out to cheer the grand parade as the victims dead bodies were carried to the main performance stage. Sweets and candies were being handed out. Glitter and confetti thrown and Palestinian flags raised high.

From a drone’s perspective, the crowd at the hand-off site was made to stand in the shape of a large piece of male anatomy. It was another swipe at Israel. “This is what we’re doing to you. You are being royally screwed and it’s on display for the entire world. We are in control. You are nothing.”

In a ghastly, demonic display of the ugliest and most macabre choreography, the black coffins of four innocent Jews were given over to the Red Cross to transfer to Israel. We would later find out the coffins were locked with no keys given and they were glued shut. Among those the boxes contained was the remains of an 85 year old great-grandfather. Oded Lifshitz, one of the founders of Kibbutz Nir Oz, was a gifted pianist. He was a peace activist who helped Gazans who were ill, by transporting them to the hospital for medical (cancer) treatments. He even let Palestinians stay in his home as they were undergoing chemo and radiation. He was known for his kindness to all. May he finally rest in peace.

Also returned were two small children. Ariel Bibas, age 4, and Kfir Bibas, 9 months when captured. Israel had grown to love these little red haired boys as their own children. And their mother, Shiri. It was horrific, but they were coming home at long last. Or were they? And in what condition? (See my blogpost from yesterday for the full update) If you remember yesterday, when I said we wouldn’t know for sure who were in those coffins until a full identification and possible DNA analysis was made on the bodies? I was not being sardonic, but realistic. Knowing the barbarity of these people who act more like monsters than human beings: their entire world is bent on inflicting maximum pain and anguish on Israel.

We are coming to the realization that there are few, if any, truly innocent civilians in Gaza. The same people who stayed with Oded Lifshitz and his wife mapped out their entire house for the 7October attacks. His wife saw people she knew taking items from her house as she was carried off. It was the ‘civilian population’ who were last seen taking Shiri Bibas and the two children away into Gaza. And it is the youngest of the children who are being groomed to hate Jews and to kill and murder and celebrate death.

This morning we woke up to the news:

We are utterly devastated. Shocked. Angry. Insensed. And that is exactly the reaction the terrorists want. But what else did we expect? Seriously!! And where in literal hell is Shiri????? Is she even still alive? Her parents were killed. The family dog was shot. Their home destroyed. Her husband, Yarden was released last week, told by Hamas that he would be reunited with his family back in Israel. He would soon find out that other members of his family were massacred. How will he deal with all of this when the one thing that helped him survive in the dark, underground tunnel was the thought of seeing and holding his wife and babies again? And those boys!! All we know is that they were “brutally murdered” in November, 2023. No specifics. Do we even want to know?

Back to the prisoner release swap. As part of this ‘great deal,’ Israel is emptying its prisons of caught, tried, and convicted murderers…people who have rammed cars into crowds; committed stabbings; planned suicide missions for other Palestinians; planned or executed bombings in which multiple people were killed and injured; committed multiple shootings; stole or smuggled contraband weapons and bomb making materials into Gaza/Judaea/Samaria. Tomorrow 802 women and teenagers will be set free, back into Gaza, East Jerusalem and the ‘West Bank’ (Judaea/Samaria). All have committed serious acts of terror and attempted murder. Many of those released in the past few weeks have openly vowed to kill as many Jews as possible in as short time as possible.

Last night, at about midnight, there was a huge explosion in the seaside city of Bat Yam, just south of Tel Aviv. Five busses exploded at the bus terminal. I thank and praise G-d for this miracle. No one was killed or hurt. The explosive devices planted in the busses were reportedly planned to explode simultaneously all over town at exactly 9am, the height of Friday morning bus travel. It would have resulted in hundreds of casualties. Arab Palestinians put the timers on their bombs, that detonated way too early. Already two suspects, caught on security cameras, have been arrested. They were released prisoners from three weeks prior. One of the undetonated explosives found on a bus near Tel Aviv had the inscription in Arabic “ Revenge of the People of Tulkarm.”

Large police forces are still on the scene. Bomb disposal units have been dispatched throughout Israel to check each bus and train. Ben Gurion Airport as well as the other two smaller airports have tightened security around the perimeter. All vehicles will be thoroughly searched prior to entering the premises. Only passengers and staff will be allowed to enter the airport and they will be searched before they can go inside. (If you are going to Ben Gurion, expect heavy delays and arrive at least four hours early). Security has been tightened everywhere.

The public is urged to stay away from and affected areas and to remain vigilant for any suspicious items or activity.

And so, with heavy hearts, uplifted arms to G-d, and open eyes, we enter into the weekend. Shabbat, our Island of Peace. We await the next gruesome parade and staged spectacle from Gaza as 6 more hostages are expected to be released.

I beg you, please pray for us this weekend. In your synagogues. In your churches. In your homes with your families. Pray for us. We are broken people today… we still have 66 hostages being held in Gaza.

This Almost Unbearable Grief. War Stories. Day 503. 20 February, 2025

This past week has been intense. Really, really intense emotionally, mentally and spiritually. For me and for all of Israel. And today even the weather is an expression of what is churning inside us. The rather warm winter is giving way to high winds and angry looking skies, thunder and lightning, interspersed with breaks of glorious sunshine that are fleeting passages, only to be replaced by cloudbursts of driving, pounding rain and hail, then a rainbow and bitter cold winds.

I work part time as an independent journalist for a few magazines and e-news outlets. This week I was asked to cover two stories which had me interviewing the grieving parents and wives of fallen soldiers. What can I say? There are few words, but I have been privileged to be able to enter into the pain, the anger, the questioning, the hope and the love of these amazing people (I will eventually write a post about this). All are determined to honor their loved one’s legacy in beautiful and creative ways that not only help them, but the entire country move forward. Still, the heaviness is almost unbearable.

Last night, John and I had tickets to see our favorite Israeli artist, Idan Raichel. I cannot say enough about his music. I started following him in the early 2000’s when my Israeli girlfriend gave me one of his CDs. We saw him 4 times in Los Angeles and I’ve heard him perform 3 times here in Israel. Not only is he an extremely talented artist, his music is just beautiful to hear. An Israeli Medal of Honor recipient and Poet Laureate of Israel, his words (in Hebrew) are extremely profound and romantic in the highest of ways. Several make me cry. He sings of life, loss, love, family and the need to cherish every moment in this world and hold fast to what is good.

Before the concert started, the news had been leaked that the four deceased hostages to be returned the next day included an 85 year old grandfather and peace activist, Oded Lifshitz. He was abducted along with his wife, Yocheved, 82, who was returned December, 2023. Oded spent much of his life advocating for co-existence with the Palestinians and spreading peace, taking sick Gazans to the Israeli hospitals for their cancer treatments. Just let that sink in: the Hamas monsters kidnapped elderly people in their 80s and then left several to die or be killed in those terror tunnels. This Israeli man helped them live. it is ironic that a man who dedicated his life to peace was murdered by the same group he sought to dialogue with. After her release, Yocheved described her brutal treatment at the hands of the terrorists.

And then came news that we so dreaded to hear, shattering all our hearts. Our beloved Shiri Bibas and her babies, Ariel and Kfir are coming back in boxes. The Bibas family is still holding out hope that it is not them being returned, because Hamas has already delighted in the use of psychological warfare and torture of the Israeli people. Hamas proclaims captives are dead when there are actually signs of life. And they have told captives being released that their loved ones are alive and waiting for them, when they were, in fact, murdered. It’s a sick and twisted game they play. And our hearts and our insides are all in knots.

Last night’s concert, typically upbeat and celebratory, was a night of subdued intensity. (As an aside, we’ve been taken aback by how much people have aged over the past 16 months, we included. Idan seemed to have grown a decade or more older in the past year). It was in no way political, but the songs all spoke to our heart. Especially this one, “In the Night,” which was written in 2008.

“In the Night”….even if it seems like it is over, everyone else is waiting. Even if it’s bad and the majority are angry. Waiting for answers to find another reason to hope. Who knows? Who knows? In the small hours, the simple prayers ask – in the night, in the night – in the small hours, the simple prayers plead….

This morning at 8:00 am, the macabre, demonic show began. It was more than difficult to find a live feed, since (thankfully and rightly) Israeli stations, and even Memri and AlJazeera were not streaming live coverage. Today the streets were thronged with “the innocent civilians of Gaza” all waving flags and cheering as there procession of four white Red Cross vehicles carrying the bodies of deceased hostages rolled through. At one point, the path was so clogged, the convoy had to pause for minutes. Palestinian flag-waving celebrants we’re jumping on the tops of the Red Cross SUVs. They were handing out candy and sweets. (It’s a famine everyone. Remember that. People are starving).

At the designated ceremonial location, today’s stage was all black. With black curtains opening to reveal a most hideous photoshopped canvas backdrop. It featured photographs of the Bibas family and Lifshitz covered in a pool of blood. An image of Netanyahu with vampire fangs, dripping blood and spattered with blood, dripped onto those photographs of the deceased hostages. (At this point many of us were/are still holding out hope beyond hope that it was all a psy-op and that the bodies inside were not those of the captives). The heading for this one read “The War Criminal Netanyahu and his Nazi Army Killed Them With Missiles and Their Zionist War Weapons.”

The pallbearers of this surreal Satanic ritual appeared all dressed in black. Their faces covered. Different colored headbands represented the separate, but united, factions of resistance (terrorism). They came carrying simple wooden coffins painted black. Each coffin had the photo of the deceased and their name in Hebrew (the name ‘Ariel’ was emblazoned underneath the picture of Kfir. Your guess is as good as mine on that one. The photo of Netanyahu with the Hebrew for evil dictator and. Nazi killer was written underneath. Four coffins were placed on the stage. In the background, a loudspeaker played festive Arabic music as the crowd chanted along and clapped to the rhythm.

As usual, members of the Red Cross were there to sign the papers. This time no certificates of goody bags were issued. They approved the hand off and loaded each of the coffins into waiting vehicles. The Red Cross vehicles then met the IDF at the appointed location. At some point, after the exchange was made (Idid not see this happen), the black boxes were changed for white coffins with the flag of Israel draped over them.

By the time the bodies reached Israel and were transferred to Israeli ambulances (ZAKA), the streets were lined with police, military and mourners – saluting and waving Israeli flags. The bodies were taken to a Tel Aviv forensics unit to identify the remains and the cause of death.

In the meantime, Hamas journalists were interviewing the “innocent civilians” who kidnapped Shiri and children. It was the face of evil. Arab reporters indicated that the kidnappers are still alive and were proud of their deeds that day. One person even joked about kidnapping the dog and then shooting it in front of the family.

No other people on earth parade their war crimes in front of the world to see. No other people celebrate it in their town squares, or what is left of them. Of coffins being put on display in a weird, sick, twisted show. The coffins stamped “Arrested 7/10/2023”. Never forget the world wants to reward this kind of barbarity with their own state. Anybody that doubts the brutality of these terrorists or thinks these people can be negotiated with needs to re-examine the whole story as well as their own core values.

The last straw, the last thing that broke my heart was a statement released by the Ministry of Health. “The identification process of Kfir will be complicated. Usually, identification is done through cross referencing teeth. Kfir was kidnapped before his teeth grew in.”

I want to cry. I want to scream from the top of my lungs on my balcony. I want the world to see the real side of this whole ugly mess and what Israel is up against. I should be writing my commissioned stories for the newspaper. The stories of grieving parents. Parents, who after losing their sons when a building booby trapped by Hamas exploded and collapses killing 4, wounding 10 seriously of whom 3 are still in comas – these parents visit one another in consolation and support, and then go to the hospitals together to visit the families of the survivors. We do not gloat over death and destruction. We value life.

Oded Lifshitz was just identified as one of the corpses. “The grieving state of Israel does not have to wait for the cause of death to be determined. The only cause of death is that a grandfather and a mother and her children were kidnapped from their home on Shabbat Simchat Torah morning,” stated Idan Raichel just a few minutes ago.

We will cry. We will mourn. We will grieve. We will lift our voices to G-d and pray. But we will move forward. We will go on. Why? Because there is no other choice. In the end our enemies will be vanquished. We will live. We will dance again. Just not today- May the memories of all the fallen and all the murdered be for a blessing to those who think of them.

Again, if you find this interesting or important, or if this another side that you have not seen reported, please, please share this with as many people as possible. The world really needs to know the truth.

(As an update… just got the report that Hamas attached a little parting note to Oded’s coffin. It reads: To the family of Oded Lifshitz. We would have preferred your sons to return to you alive, but your own army and great leaders chose to kill them instead of bringing them back. You were the victim of a leadership that does not care about its children.” How horrific is this? Trying to divide the country against Netanyahu in the middle of all that is going on. This is neither the time nor the place. In the meantime, I have procrastinated the writing of these articles. One due tomorrow. The other next Monday and it’s getting later by the minute….

The Show Must Go On. War Stories, Day 499. 16 February, 2025

Yesterday was Shabbat. The show always happens on Shabbat, at the insistence of Hamas. Why? Because it is the one day of the week when the Jewish people are supposed to be at peace. It is a day of rest, not just from physical labor, but from mental and emotional burdens. Shabbat is a day of joy. The one day that televisions and cell phones and computers are put aside and you spend time with family and friends and nature… and G-d.

But the show must go on. And yes, it is joyful when more captives are released. The entire country exults when just one person is freed from captivity in Gaza, but at what cost? Firstly…. The shows. Very well choreographed displays are put on in the return and release ceremonies in Gaza. They are all filled with deep meaning and symbols meant for Israel. Hamas announces to us “The war is not over. We have really won. We are still here and not going anywhere except into Israel where we will kill its inhabitants and conquer the land, especially Jerusalem. We are the victors.”

Let me explain. Yesterday’s ceremony was especially painful to watch. The terrorists were gathered together in Khan Younis, several different groups all united. The ISIS troops and Palestinian Islamic Jihad were the soldiers dressed in all black with green helmets and the black and yellow flag and black headbands. Then there were the Hamas fighters in their camouflaged uniforms and green headbands. There were members of the AlQassam Brigade represented in dark green camouflage with floppy hats. And the Al Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade was there in stolen green IDF and stolen weapons (the terrorist in the green camo with back roll and red keffiyeh in front of the white van), as well as dark ‘cammies’ and red keffiyahs. A show of Islamic unity. In addition to arriving in their brand new white pickups as per usual, they brought in a white van and a large black Dodge Ram truck. Both were stolen from inside Israel on 7 October, 2023 and were being used to show their “booty” in addition to the people they took.

Of course, the Red Cross members were led out of the vans, driven and escorted by Hamas members. The Red Cross signed off on the hostage release… once again that all hostages were in good physical condition, even though they were never once visited or their status checked on. The Red Cross is a sham and just glorified Uber drivers in this situation.

Again, the stage was decorated symbolically. Several flags are on display: the Palestinian, Hamas, PIJ, Daesh (ISIS) and other brigade flags I did not recognize. To the left of the dais, the newly designed canvas poster showed a picture of Yahya Sinwar sitting in his bombed-out house where he was killed, on his red sofa, looking out over the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount. There is a conquering Palestinian flag over the Temple Mount. The writing in Arabic, English and Hebrew reads “No immigration except to Jerusalem.” That means they will not stop fighting until Jerusalem and all Israel is conquered.

The poster at the bottom that stretches along the length of the platform shows photographs of Israeli army bases and Israeli villages and kibbutzim. The words read, “We crossed over swiftly.” It tells Israel that Hamas have done it once, and will do it again. There is no regret, only pride. The photoshopped canvas that hangs to the right shows all the past (martyred) and present leaders of Hamas. It is to give inspiration to the Palestinians. At the bottom is a picture of the Old City of Jerusalem…which they indicate will be conquered.

And of course, the center canvas displays a large photo of the Holy City of Jerusalem, holy to not only Muslims and Jews but to Christians. It contains the Via Dolorosa, where Jesus walked with his cross, the Holy Sepulchre, the Upper Room of the Last Supper (which is in the same building upstairs from King David’s holy burial site). It also contains many different Churches that are very important in Christianity. And the Kotel, the Western Wall, and many sites that are extremely holy to Judaism. The writing on this banner proclaims to all the Islamic World, “O Jerusalem, bear witness, we are your soldiers.” This is a direct threat to Western Civilization. It is most important that you understand their message! They are not playing around, but announcing directly their intentions.

Three Israeli captives, Yair Horn Sasha Troufanov (a Russian Israeli), and Sagi Dekel-Chen (American Israeli), were paraded onto the stage with their certificates and goodie bags. I was watching on AlJazeera news live, Memri TV, and i24news to see all sides. The reporters (only Muslim) were present with their expensive cameras and recording equipment. All “journalists” wore the military terror uniforms. The hostages were made to thank their captors for their excellent treatment.

Hamas gave the released hostages a “special parting gift” to pass along to Einav Zangauker, the mother of the hostage, Matan, who is still being held captive. It was a beautiful hourglass with green sand. On it was a photo of Einav and Matan and the inscription in Arabic, Hebrew and English: Time is Running Out. How incredibly thoughtful of them!! Another act of psychological torture even at the end. These are evil monsters we are dealing with.

We are all overjoyed at their homecoming. Still, Sasha today learned that his father was murdered on Oct. 7. His grandmother, mother and girlfriend were also kidnapped, and he was shot in both legs while taken hostage. He returned limping. Yair was taken along with his brother, Eitan, into Gaza. Only Yair was released, and if you watch the video, not only was he limping, but escorted by the arms and holding on to nearby objects to balance. His brother was left nehind, not even one of the names included for this Phase 1 hostage release cycle. Sagi was captured before his daughter was born and missed the first year of her life. Today his wife told him, she named their baby Shachar Mazal…Dawn of Mazal (fortune). All of their homes on the Nir Oz kibbutz were completely bombed and burned out.

Also yesterday, Israel released a few prisoners. 369 to be exact. That’s not 30 or 50 convicted terrorists per Israeli civilian. It’s 123. That’s unbelievable. I don’t know why we kowtow to these negotiators. Israel is its own worst enemy. It’s the truth and I say it out loud now. 31 prisoners, who were serving multiple life sentences for planning terror attacks that killed or wounded multiple people, were deported. 124 convicted felons were released into Judaea and Samaria (West Bank). The remaining 214 were bussed back into Gaza. They had been picked up on 7October during the terror attacks.

Upon the first prisoner release, they were all wearing white wristbands that said in Arabic and Hebrew, “The eternal people do not forget.” It also includes a verse from Psalm 18: “ I will pursue my enemies and catch them.”

The next release the prisoners all wore black jackets emblazoned with a yellow ribbon and a “never forget/never again” in memory/honor of the hostages still remaining. Yesterday, the group was released wearing a white t-shirt with the IDF symbol and a blue Star of David. As soon as they got to Ramallah, they took off their shirts and burned them. Some would say these wristbands and shirts were also psychological torture.

In other news, as I was watching AlJazeera, I saw two things: small Gazan children as young as four or five, wearing terror headbands, some dressed as soldiers, many holding guns. All were chanting allahu akhbar and other chants. Also, within fifteen minutes of release, one terrorist, donned his head covering as well as a gun (illegal Karl Gustav?). He was shouting that he would soon kill many Jews. The Resistance is alive and well.

What more is there to write?

Feel good? Friday. War Stories. Day 497 14February, 2024

Happy Valentine’s Day to all out there celebrating (in Israel we don’t have this holiday, but celebrate romance and engagements on 15 Av in the midsummer). Totally looking forward to relaxing this evening. We’ve had lots of rain this past week – we ARE in the rainy season, and here in the ‘desert’ climes, we see any rainfall as a sign of blessing.

Israel is an amazing powerhouse when it comes to water conservation. Take note California! Many houses and public buildings have rain storage systems that collect the rainwater in barrels and tanks for later use. We reuse ‘gray water’ for agriculture. Trenches and deep reservoirs are built to channel rainwater for storage and late use during the dry season. Israel pretty much perfected the art of desalination, and now, even during the most severe droughts, we get over 70% of our potable water through desalination plants. The sea water from the Mediterranean is extracted, the salt content minimized, the water purified through the tiniest gauge microfiltration systems, UV lit, and voilà! Fresh water. As an aside, Netanyahu offered to build three desal plants in CA. One north of Marin/Napa Counties, north of San Francisco; one just south or Carmel/Monterey in the center; and one just north of San Diego in the South. The offer was flatly rejected by Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2019.

A few years ago, students at the Technion invented a small 5ft X 5ft cube that extracts the humidity in the air and makes water. It’s called WaterGen, using only a portable generator can make four liters of clean drinking water for every kilowatt hour of electricity generated. This breakthrough has saved countless lives as the WaterGen has been given to many drought-stricken African countries.

In addition, in 2012, Israelis at Kibbutz Lavi up here in the Galil invented HydroSpin. It is the absolute cleanest of energies, a breakthrough in hydroelectric technologies. Using water flow from rivers and dams, water rushes through a hydraulic turbine connected to a generator creating kinetic energy. The system powers a smart water network which continually monitors the flow of water in pipes. Instantly leaks can be detected as well as water pressure in pipes and water quality. It’s a complex system, but saves water, nonetheless.

Israeli innovations in water also include “Miriam’s Well”, a solar powered off-grid water purification system that is lightweight and portable. There is no need for professional maintenance or chlorine, as this device can rid contaminated water of pathogens and chemicals that cause disease. Shared for free with many under developed African communities, “Miriam’s Well” is saving lives. In Jewish Oral Tradition, Miriam, Moses’ sister, led the Children of Israel to springs in the desert that she would miraculously find.

(I really hadn’t even planned on writing about water, but….) Between the raindrops on Thursday, we decided to take a drive. It’s been well over a year since we visited some of our favorite places in Israel on the Lebanese border. We really needed to get out, and I wanted to see the damage that had been caused by the war. Driving up the Hula Valley, everything was emerald green and the orchards were in full bloom. Farmers were out in force planting new trees.

We first drove up to Kiryat Shmona, which had been hard hit by shrapnel and falling rockets as well as suicide drones carrying incendiary devices. We passed many places, once green forested areas, that had been scorched, the trees all brown. But because Israel is quick to remove sick trees and uses goats, scouts, and forest rangers to clear the underbrush (the ground is also extremely rocky), the fires can’t spread like wildfire (sorry for the pun) and get out of control.

Israel does a great job in quickly fixing anything that was damaged. Many homes we saw were under repair, and much had already been reconstructed. Still, there were very few people who have returned to live there, as the ceasefire is a bit shaky and ends in 46 days. There is still lots of new construction going up. As soon as a missile hits a road, the street is repaved and we saw lots of that.

We drove along the Lebanese border. Some kibbutzim like Rechaniyya, Malkiya and Avivim are now closed and inhabited by the IDF reservists who are guarding the communities and using (with full blessing) their dining facilities and community halls where cots have been set up for them. They also use these border communities as a rest area between patrols. We were allowed to drive through Dovev, a poor community on the Lebanese border that sustained quite a bit of damage. From Dovev, you can see the neighboring Lebanese villages on the next mountain ridge over.

In the Druze city of Hurfeish, everyone stayed. The Druze are not going anywhere and will defend their land and their homes to their last breath. They are loyal Israelis, most men serving in the IDF and security after their service. The Christian communities in BarAm and Fassuta, also on the border, chose to stay and defend their land. No one will force them to leave for any reason. John talked with his friend, Musa, the city treasurer of Fassuta. He said they spent lots of time running to their bomb shelters, sleeping in them and staying in them for sometimes a half a day at a time as drones and missiles flew overhead. He credits Iron Dome, Yeshua and the Virgin Mary for protection and the miracle that there was not one structure hit or person wounded. He prays that the war will be over soon and that within the next five years all the north of Israel will be flourishing and prosperous.

In other good and miraculous news: we wish a hearty Mazal tov!!! to Elia and Ariel, the couple (I covered their story early on) who escaped from their burning house with their daughter, Yael, who was just an infant. With severe burns to their bodies, they spent almost a year in Sheba Hospital’s ICU burn unit. Elia’s burns were so severe (they thought her lungs were permanently damaged) that she was comatose for 51 days. A few days ago, Elia gave birth, against all odds, to a healthy baby boy. They named him Yiftach, which means ‘he will open.’ They believe his birth will open the Gates of Hope for all of us. It truly is a miracle and a testimony to the resilience and strength of the Israeli people.

On the grim side, we are getting more narratives from the mothers of the five IDF soldiers released two weeks ago. They have vowed to be strong and a model of hope and victory to the nation, but the stories they are telling of the time in captivity are horrific. They will need years to recover. All the young girls saw their friends raped, and killed right next to them.

Daniella Gilboa’s parents told the media that “the terrorists separated them into groups- those who were alive and those who were dead. They saw executions and other shocking scenes. They witnessed the deaths of their best friends. During the height of the war, there was no water. Daniella and the others were forced to drink filthy groundwater. This caused her to contract a severe stomach infection. She was between life and death for two weeks. There were days when they were given donkey food, something completely inedible and impossible to chew. It was rotting straw mixed with rotten vegetables.‘

“During captivity,” her father continued, “ Hamas released an official video two months ago falsely claiming Daniella had been murdered by the IDF. They made her lie down wrapped in her sheets. They put powder on her face and highlighted the tattoo on her arm. They created a deliberate, manipulative video that devastated us at home. We were completely helpless.”Daniella learned Arabic without letting her captors know she could understand them. She also managed to manipulate them into letting her watch TV. She saw her mother, Orly, one evening, and that gave her incredible strength. She didn’t know if she would survive her ordeal. To this day, Daniella still has bullets in her leg and will need surgery. Her mom revealed that when they were finally reunited the first words from Daniella were to apologize to her family who feared her dead.

All of the girls were beaten regularly. They all have shrapnel wounds all over their bodies which will require surgery. They were never seen by Red Cross officials. Two were ‘treated’ at Shifa Hospital without anesthesia or antibiotics. They were told they would be converted to Islam and be married to a Gazan or be shot. New evidence has come out that the terrorists beat a Thai hostage so badly that they knocked out all of his front teeth and broke his nose.

Karina Ariel’s mother says her daughter is more than certain it will happen again. None of the girls can fully speak about that terrible day that Gaza Hamas soldiers as well as civilians broke into the base and the surrounding kibbutzim and towns. Karina’s mom says her whole body is in pieces. For the first half a year, she could nearly walk and her hands were always tied together. She constantly feared for her survival and was repeatedly told that Israel will not save you. They do not care about you. They do not even want you back now. They were perpetually psychologically tormented.

Liri Albag’s mother stated that “it’s all very confusing. They way they returned strong and smiling. There seemed to be a resilience in them standing proud on that stage knowing they would be returned.” Hamas forced Liri, Daniella, Agam Karina and Naama to watch videos of IDF soldiers, their friends, being tortured. They were held at gunpoint and not allowed to look away. Hamas is playing with the lives of the hostages and their families. They do not have a shred of empathy. Their only goal is to make the families suffer as much as possible. We must not look away!!!

After nearly 500 days, we are now receiving testimonies recovered from the survivors as to the conditions of some of the others who were taken captive. Some of the families want the stories to be told. Others are keeping very private. From Jonny Daniels:

“Anat, Mayan Angrest’s mother, said earlier this week, ‘We received evidence that he is alive and being held in difficult conditions.” His sister added that “after a long time we received a sign of life. My brother is alive!!!! He is badly wounded but alive. Return him now before there is no one to return him to.” Anat said that they heard how Or Levy, whom Hamas insisted on defining as a soldier, was being abused, and their fear of the abuse and torture that Mayan was undergoing grew. “He was kidnapped from the tank, covered in burns. He underwent severe interrogations there, we saw it in his face in a video that we have decided not to publish yet. We do not yet know the long term consequences of his burns and other injuries.”

Alon Ohel’s family received their first sign of life from him since he was taken captive 7October, 2023. According to information provided to the family, Ohel is being held in Hamas’ underground Gaza tunnels, suffering from a severe eye injury and severe malnutrition. “Our Alon is alive. He is injured and not receiving treatment. He is being held without daylight and access to basic human conditions. We are excited to know he is alive, but we are also devastated and shocked by the horrid physical and mental state in which he and the other hostages are undergoing,” a family spokesperson reported to the Israeli media.

These are just a few of the testimonies I share with you today. There are many others. All are heartbreaking as to the extent of Hamas and also the Gazan Palestinian civilians’ cruelty and barbarism. Some of the reports I’ve been reading are almost unimaginable. Absolute atrocities. The world needs to know. The world needs to be made aware. It will take a lifetime for these captives to fully recover. Many do not even know the fate of their closest loved ones. Hostages whose partners have survived are being told of their murders. Some captives who have lost parents and children and spouses are being told they still live. It is sick and twisted. One captive told of how the Gaza City house she was staying in for a while held items from her mother’s home in Be’eri and that the woman was wearing her mother’s jewelry. This was purposely done to psychologically torture the victim, whose mother and father were both killed that day.

This weekend, we hope to see the return of several/many more/all the remaining hostages tomorrow. Please, G-d, hear our prayers. May we have a peaceful Shabbat with lots of good news.

Happy New Year!!! 13 February, 2025. Tu b’Shvat. The 15th of Shvat

Have I told you yet how much I absolutely love this country? Its customs and traditions? Today is New Year’s Day! For 🌳 🌲🌴🌵🌳! Yes. TREES!!!! How cool is this? It’s the Hebrew month of Shvat – also amazing because who else has a month Shvaaaahht??? Even saying the word makes me laugh. And the 15th of the month, during the full moon, we celebrate nature. It’s the original Earth Day without all the political hype. And of course…. We eat and drink. But more about that later.

So to quote my friend, Arky Staiman, we have this holiday where we celebrate the blossoming of the trees. They are just beginning to sprout forth right now. Here in Israel. Now listen, for those Ashkenaz Jews in the US (hello, Chicago, NewYork, DC, St Louis and Seattle), in Canada (you out there freezing your tuchuses off inMontreal and Toronto), in France, Germany, England….this holiday makes little sense. For those in the extreme South (yes, you in Tasmania! In Argentina and Brazil, even in India) you are in the throes of summer. But here in Israel, the rains have come and everything is green and the buds are shooting forth from the ground and the bushes and trees. Judaism only makes sense here in Israel.

No where else does this make sense. The trees know it’s time to blossom their beautiful flowers and it’s all connected to one place, right here, in the Land of Israel, where Judaism is connected and the holidays are connected to the Land and Nature and the People. It’s the time when people go out and the earth is soft and fruit trees (and other trees) can be planted. The early settlers in the 1800s and early 1900s took this opportunity to restore the ecology and verdure of the land by planting forests and groves.

Groups of schoolchildren were out today planting bulbs and trees in the neighborhood park. Whole congregations go out together and plant – avocados are becoming increasingly popular. A friend lives on Kibbutz Ginosar (Gennesaret) where they are planting dunams/acres of bananas this week.

Did you know fruits can be really really Kosher? That Jewish trees in Israel are circumcised??? That’s another weird one. Let me explain. A fruit tree is planted about now…15 Shvat. It is cared for and grows. The first year comes and fruit pops out. Leave it alone! Do not touch the fruit! It is not ready yet. Why? Leviticus 19:23 states

When you enter the land and plant any tree for food, you shall regard its fruit as forbidden. Three years it shall be forbidden for you, not to be eaten.

In the fourth year of fruit bearing, the farmer would bring the fruit from those trees to the Holy Temple in Jerusalem as an offering…on Tu b’Shvat. Then the tree is circumcised, holy, set apart for eating, Kosher. Who knew? From year five onwards, the nuts, the fruits, the seeds are all good to go. Pretty wild, eh? Many farmers still abide by these Biblical laws today here in Israel – except they offer the fruits and nuts to the poor because there is no longer a Temple.

In the 1500s and 1600s, the Jewish mystics of the city of Tsfat (only 20 minutes from here) created a Tu b’Shvat Seder which has come into real popularity in Israel today. It was modeled after the Passover Seder, where different foods are eaten in a certain order, blessings said, and everything has a symbolic, deeply spiritual meaning. We have our own lovely Seder. Here’s what I do:

The table is set with a lovely bunch of fresh flowers I just picked from the neighborhood park. There is no requirement to light candles, but as this is a festive celebration I light the two candles and say the holiday blessing. We have four small glasses of wine set out – white wine, a light rosé, a darker rosé and a red. We take turns reading just like at Passover. I fill a large pitcher with rose scented or lavender scented water. There is a basin. Each person recites the prayer for handwashing and washes his hands individually.

    The First Cup of Wine

This glass of white wine symbolizes winter. For a mystical twist this is the energy G-d used in creation to create the trees and flowering, seed bearing plants. We read Deuteronomy 8:7-10 and then lift our glass, say the blessing and drink the wine.

Barukh ata Adonai, Eloheinu Melekh ha-olam borei peri ha-gafen.

Blessed are you, Source of all life, Creator of the fruit of the vine.

Reader: For Adonai your God is bringing you into a good land. A land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths springing forth in valleys and hills, a land of wheat and barley and vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, a land wherein you shall eat without scarceness, you shall not lack anything in it; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you may dig brass. And you shall eat and be satisfied, and bless God for the good land, which is being given unto you (Deuteronomy 8:7-10).

    The First Fruits

Did you know a nut is also considered a fruit? At this point we eat a fruit that is hard and inedible on the outside but with a softer flesh on the inside, like coconut, pecans, walnuts, almonds. The hard shell is strong like our covering and protection by G-d when we walk in His ways. We become strong spiritually, but in the inside we are still tender and yielding. Today as a first course, I serve walnuts in the shell, almonds (indigenous to Israel. Aaron’s staff had budding almond flowers) and also some feta cheese.

Barukh ata Adonai, Eloheinu Melekh ha-olam, borei peri ha-etz.

Blessed are You, Source of all life, Creator of the fruit of the tree.

    The Second Cup of Wine

The second glass of wine is a light pink rosé. It stands for springtime. It is also a mystical symbol of mercy (the white wine) mingled with a little bit of justice (the red grape juice or wine), two attributes of the Creator. We read Deuteronomy 28, the blessings and the curses for obedience and disobedience to G-d’s commandments. Then the blessing over the wine, and drink the second cup.

Reader: Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall you be in the fruit of your body, and the fruit of your land, and the fruit of your cattle, and the young of your flock. Blessed shall you be in your basket and your kneading trough. Blessed shall you be when you come in and blessed shall you be when you go out (Deuteronomy 28:36).

Barukh ata Adonai, Eloheinu Melekh ha-olam, borei peri ha-gafen.

Blessed are You, Source of all life, Creator of the fruit of the vine.

    The Second Fruit

The second fruit(s) we enjoy are soft on the outside with a seed or pit in the center. I use olives, as they are one of the seven Biblical species indigenous to the Land. They grow everywhere throughout the Galil. It has become a sign of home. You can also use any stone fruit like cherries, apricots, peaches. I also use dates, because they grow here around Lake Kinneret (Sea of Galilee) and in Hebrew, the date palm is Tamar. These fruits remind us of the spiritual and emotional strength within us.

We read Psalm 1. We say the blessing over the fruit again. Now eat the olives or dates.

    The Third Cup of Wine

The cup of late spring early summer. The wine is a deep pink rosé. It is more judgment than mercy. It is a season of growth and development. Life is always changing, but G-d remains the same.

    The Third Fruit

This fruit symbolizes the first harvest. We eat fruits that can be eaten whole without peeling. What you see is what you get. It also stands for G-d’s omnipresence. Blueberries. Tomatoes. Apples and pears. Grapes. I use grapes as that is also one of the seven species. We read Genesis 1:29-31, say the blessing and consume the fruits.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

    The Fourth Cup of Wine

The last glass is red wine. We are judged for our actions. As the fall comes and winter sets in, it is time to plow under the soil. The land rests. We become introspective and make things right between ourselves as people and with G-d. This glass, all red, also stands for fire, burning, purging, but not consumed like the burning bush, or the fire of the Divine Spark within us. We read the story of the burning bush in Exodus 3, say the blessing and sip the wine.

    The Fourth Fruit

The fourth fruit has a touch, protective skin on the outside, but sweet, soft flesh within like avocado, citrus fruits, mangos or bananas. It symbolizes the mysteries of the world and the hidden mysteries in Scripture. We are constantly seeking to uncover deep truths and are nourished by her fruits.

This is just a tiny bit of our Seder. We sing songs and eat lots of great vegetarian (and I serve dairy) foods between each part of the fun ceremony. There’s a lot of deep spirituality that goes with each part and, as a result, lots of discussion.

I know it’s a bit late for you this year, but here are some recipes that we will be enjoying.

    Tu b’Shvat Israeli Salad

Ingredients and Directions: Chop a variety of fresh vegetables into small diced chunks… Tomato, Cucumber, Yellow or Orange Bell Pepper, Red Onion, Carrot. Add crumbled Feta Cheese. Dress with juice from 1/2 fresh lemon and a drizzle of olive oil. Gently stir in roasted, salted sunflower seeds.

    Tamar’s Sweet Israeli Tabbouleh

Serves 6-8 as a side dish 4 as a lunch entrée. Vegan. (Pareve)

    Ingredients:

    • 1 cup bulgur
    • 1 1/2 cups boiling water
    • 1/4 cup pickled red onion (onion pieces swimming in vinegar with pickling spice)
    • 1/2 cup parsley, chopped very fine
    • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, chopped very fine
    • 1 cup toasted walnuts, chopped
    • 1/2 cup pomegranate arils
    • 2 persimmons, chopped into small cubes
    • 1/4 cup yellow raisins
    • 1/4 cup chopped dates

    Dressing ingredients:

    • 1/2 cup extra Virgin olive oil
    • Zested rind and juice of 1 large naval orange
    • 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar
    • 2 Tablespoons honey
    • 2 Tablespoons pomegranate syrup/molasses or carob syrup, if available
    • 2 tsp sumac

I tried to use all things indigenous to the land and/or part of the seven species in this cold salad. Wheat, dates grapes (raisins) pomegranates and honey for the Land of Milk &Honey. It’s so healthy, light and addictive! Very Israeli with a twist. I really do hope you make and enjoy this one!

In the meantime, plant some bulbs or a fruit tree. If you desire to bless Israel, go to https://shop.jnf.org>collections>plant-trees and plant a tree in the Land of Israel for only $18. 🌲Happy New Year, Trees!!!🌳

The Good, the Bad and the Indefinite. War Stories. Day 495. 12 February, 2025

From reports coming forth from recently released hostages, there are new ‘signs of life’ of a couple captives whose fate was unknown. Omri Meirav, was taken from his home in Nahal Oz into the tunnels of Gaza. He left behind a wife and 2 small daughters. Omri was last seen caged in a terror tunnels late last July. His family is praying that he is still alive.

Alon Ohel is a concert pianist. He won a national competition when he was 18, just prior to his IDF service. He was kidnapped at age 24 from Kibbutz Be’eri on 7 October, 2023. One of the released hostages saw and was able to communicate briefly with Alon about two months ago. He had been badly wounded by shrapnel, was very malnourished and chained in an underground cage, but was still very much alive.

The oldest person in captivity, Shlomo Mansur, was 85 when he was captured. He was born in Iraq and survived the Farhud, the Middle Eastern equivalent of the Holocaust. He escaped Baghdad as a small child during the burning, raping, murdering and pillaging of his country by Islamophobia-Fascists in 1941. They came to Israel where he set up a good life. Mansur was one of the founders of Kibbutz Kissufim on the Gaza border. He was a father and grandfather. He was murdered by Hamas on 7 October, 2023. They still have his body. His wife managed to escape. Ironically he was born during a Holocaust and died in one 85 years later.

Or Levy was one of the hostages returned to Israel last Shabbat. He was the one who drove to the Nova Festival with his wife, Einav that morning, leaving their 1 year old son with the grandparents. As soon as they arrived, they heard the red alert sirens and the gunfire. The couple ran into a concrete roadside bomb shelter with over 30 other young people. One of whom was soldier, Aner Shapira. Aner, 22, bravely threw back seven grenades thrown by a terrorist into the bunker. The terrorist then sprayed the inside of the shelter with machine gun fire, killing Aner, Einav and many of those inside. The few who survived were taken to Gaza. Or has expressed his desire to meet Aner Shapira’s parents to thank them for his son’s sacrifice and bravery.

Or had not known that his wife was among those killed that fateful morning. He was told the news by his child, Almog, who just turned 3. Almog: Dad. You’ve been away for a long time. You look different today. Or: That’s right. Almog: Mommy Einav is not coming back. She is dead. Little Almog, who has had time to come to terms with his trauma will now help Or process his father’s grief. The two hugged each other in bed for hours after they were reunited at the hospital. Almog, who still doesn’t understand fully, tried to feed his father, who is on a very restricted diet. Or ate the food Almog gave him according to Tal Levy, Or’s brother. They had told Almog that his daddy was far away with many other people. They were looking for him and would do anything they could to find him for as long as it would take. The small child seemed to understand and was overjoyed when his family told him “Today, it’s Daddy’s turn to return home.”

News just came out here by an informed whistleblower and Israeli intelligence gatherer, Rafael Hayon, that as of December 2023, Hamas was ready to concede. The fighters were under siege by the IDF. They were being surrounded, without food, power, water or fuel. They were ready to give back all the hostages as well as the location of Yahya Sinwar and other key peratives. It was just prior to the first hostage release. It would be a complete surrender.

The terrorists fighting in the North were told by commanders in Qatar that their wives were all raped inside a mosque by IDF forces in Rafiah (the extreme south). The IDF had not even gone into southern Gaza… They were given orders to wait 24 hours. If they did not obey, they would be beheaded. Former Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived that night and within 12 hours a pause in fighting and an influx of humanitarian aid into Gaza was set up. Aid flowed in the next day, thus prolonging the war.

Hamas has now claimed that Israel violated the terms of ceasefire. They are retroactively punishing Israel by ceasing the release of any more hostages. They claim-

    • A young child was shot and killed by IdF forces on Sunday. The facts are thus according to the IDF authorities: A group of 8 teenagers advanced towards a group of IDF soldiers and were told to stand down. They started throwing rocks and shots were fired at the ground I warning. One 17 year old rushed the guard with a knife in an attempted stabbing. He was shot and killed.
    • The IDF did not fully evacuate Gaza. The ceasefire agreement called for all soldiers to retreat from the division between North and South Gaza, the Netzarim Corridor. They did this allowing free passage on foot to civilians.
    • Civilians are being blown up by IEDs hidden in the ground by IDF. In actuality, even though they have been warned, a few people have been killed when they entered what was left of their buildings. Many buildings have been booby trapped by Hamas in order to kill Israeli soldiers, many who have died when bugged structures collapse upon detonation.
    • Lack of humanitarian aid. Israel has thus far allowed in 13,866 aid trucks; 300,000 family sized tents supplied by Egypt, Jordan and the UN; and 50 gas and fuel tankers per day. There are reports of looting and commandeering of the rigs by Hamas forces, who in turn, sell food, hygiene and clothing to civilians at exorbitant prices.

If there is no aid, where did all those brand new, unscratched, undented white trucks carrying the Hamas terrorists come from? They show up every hostage release. It looks like a car commercial. And their brand new clean uniforms? And weapons? And the uniforms supplied to the hostages upon release? They must have some slick fashion designer to come up with those matching brown prisoner sweats with mugshots and property of AlQassem Brigade emblazoned on the front. And those spiffy huge billboards that provide the backdrop for their choreographed release ceremonies? The expensive cameras with telephoto lenses and videography equipment? None of these soldiers or even participants in the crowds look underfed.

Yesterday, there was a major shift in rhetoric on all sides. Hamas is not releasing prisoners. The deal is off. President Trump has said that if every single hostage is not returned by noon this Saturday then all hell will break loose and Israel will have free reign to restart the war. He has also stated that the US will take and rebuild Gaza. That they will be in charge of the rebuilding efforts and that any peaceful, non terrorist can enter. Jobs will be created in this new beachfront paradise. Resort hotels will be opened. Until then, the Gazan civilians would be free to leave.

However, until yesterday, none of the neighboring Arab nations would take them in. Why do you think that is? Finally, on camera in the West Wing of the White House, in a. Meeting with President Trump, Jordan King Abdulla offered to take in 2000 young children with cancer or in need of emergency medical treatment. Trump responded that it was “a beautiful thing.” If these Gazans can leave voluntarily, it collapses the narrative that they are living in an open air prison. They do not want a solution. They are against “the White Man Zionist colonialism. If Gaza is rebuilt and prospers, their victimhood disappears. Either way they lose.

And today, Prime Minister Netanyahu came out with his statement (translated from the Hebrew):

It could be an interesting weekend. Hizbulla and the Houthis have vowed to enter the fight if Israel comes down on Hamas.

If you have time and want to watch the most bizarre interview (UK journalists), so far-fetched it’s actually absurdly hysterical at points (12 minutes in), watch the takedown between anchor, Julia Hartley-Brewer and Yvonne Ridley. It aired yesterday evening on TalkTV, UK.
